The Supreme has declined the state’s plea and has ordered the responsible bodies of Assam to complete the work of National Register of Citizens by the end of May 31st. For the final list, no further extension of date is allowed by the Supreme Court. The bench ordered that the responsible bodies will complete the registration of nearly 1 crore of citizens of Assam without any casualties. The first draft of citizens whose name came out in the first draft of NRC has nothing to worry about now. The idea behind NRC was to pick out the illegal migrants out of the country. It was indeed very well thought, but the project is taking longer to complete than expected. The center requested the Court for an extension of date, but the court simply rejected it.

Mr Ranjan Gogoi and Mr RF Nariman will also monitor the work’s progress after 30 days, as per the Court orders. Mr Venugopal (the lawyer) said that it was physically impossible for the center to do that, to which the bench replied that the work at first was already taken as something physically impossible task.
Now the local panchayat selection and the election in regional areas of Assam are known to happen in the month of April and March. The court stated that the election committee would organise the election and go on without causing any disturbance on the NRC drafting. Now the responsible bodies are to complete the process on or before 31st of May. The Court expects the NRC process to come you with the final draft containing the name of the citizens found to be genuine to the nation.
For the NRC Result procedure, the state government pleaded the help of another state’s government, but the Court downright rejected it and told the government to work on the completion of the physically impossible task at hand before the mentioned date.
